Topics
The Pearsons Commercial Design Certificate, incorporating Certificate III in Retail Floristry (WRF30104), is structured into four components.

During each class you will undertake both practical and theory work.
Practical
The majority of the student's day is spent on the practical component part of the course. On completion of PCDC students will have learnt the necessary practical skills to work in the industry. The practical element is divided into three key components:
- Hand tied
- Wired pieces
- Base mediums
Within these components a number of designs are learnt for a variety of occasions, events and purposes.

Theory
The theory component of the Pearsons Commercial Design Certificate gives the student the fundamental knowledge to understand the retail environment of floristry. The core design principles taught in this component will give the student knowledge that they will use throughout their floristry career.
Fundamental theory is integral to each class, and topics include:
- Flower identification and care log book
- Health and safety in the workplace
- Design knowledge
- Client needs and problem solving skills
In addition, the course includes two dedicated workshop days:
- Colour & design
- Retail & marketing

Pearsons Unique Industry Program
When you become a florist you join a small, creative and very unique industry. The aim of the PSF unique Enrichment Program is to connect you with the floral industry. The Enrichment Program is an exciting and extremely valuable component of your training, and offered to all PCDC students.
The Enrichment Program includes:
- Growers visits
- Market visits
- Involvement in Industry and allied events
- Funeral Director visits
- Enrichment evenings
- Quarterly newsletters
- Free job advertisement and emails
- Student competition

Workplace Assessment Program
Once you have started the Pearsons Commercial Design Certificate you are eligible to undertake the Workplace Assessment Program. Once you have completed your Workplace Assessment, you will be awarded Certificate III in Floristry (WRF30104).
The workplace assessment program consists of compiling a portfolio of workplace evidence, assessment of this work by a qualified PSF assessor and completion of the nominal hours in the workplace.
Stage 1:
- Enrolled or completed PSF Commercial Design Certificate
- Completed a minimum of 120 hours flower shop work experience
- Compile a portfolio of flower shop responsibilities
Stage 2:
- Complete a minimum of 160 hours retail flower shop experience
- Complete workbook of retail flower shop procedures
